Jan. 3, 2000 - Daniel was selected to be part of the official 2000 delegation of cartoonists to represent the province of Quebec in Angouleme, France, Jan. 27 - 30 at the Festival de la Bande Dessinee d'Angouleme.

Dec. 15, 1999 - Daniel was interviewed on CBC's Radio Noon with host Nancy Wood, answering questions on Charles Schulz's retirement. The program also included (among others) Lynn Johnston and a representative of the National Cartoonist's Society.

March 23, 1999 - Daniel Shelton will be attending a book convention in Hull on Thursday and Friday (March 25 & 26) and the Quebec International Comic Art Festival in Quebec City on Saturday and Sunday (March 27 & 28) to further promote his first book of compilations.

April 2 , 1999 - Starting April 5, 1999, The Philippine Daily Inquirer (the largest newspaper in the Philippines) will be publishing "BEN" as part of its comics line-up.

OFF TO FRANCE

Jan. 22 , 1999 - Following the success of his first BEN book in French, Daniel Shelton will be attending the largest comic art convention in Europe in Angouleme, France, from January 27th thru January 31st. Hopefully this will open doors to book sales in Europe.

June 16 , 1998 - BEN was one of 6 new comic strips included in the Montreal Gazette's latest comic survey. Almost three thousand readers voted in and BEN won first place by an overwhelming percentage. We were promptly picked up by that paper and BEN has made its home there ever since.

Oct. 19, 1998 - After having been translated and published in French for only six months, a book company in Quebec offered to publish a collection of BEN strips. Les Editions Mille-Iles came out with the full-color book of compilations last spring and Daniel Shelton has been busy doing book signing sessions this fall at both Sherbrooke and Montreal book conventions.

 

MUSEUM DISPLAYS BEN COMIC STRIPS
Sherbrooke, Qc.

The Museum of Fine Arts of Sherbrooke held an exhibit on comic art this past spring. BEN as well as Daniel Shelton's other illustrations were featured along with the work of six other cartoonists.

The exhibit's organizer, Richard Langlois, said BEN proved popular among audiences there as both the local French and English newspapers publish the strip daily

VANCOUVER SUN GETS BEN
Vancouver, BC


A three week trial period in which BEN replaced CATHY on the comics page of the Vancouver Sun has resulted in that paper being one of the latest to pick up our popular strip. Readers were asked to vote and make their opinions known. And they did, with over a thousand phone calls and hundreds of e-mails and faxes. Judging from the enthusiastic response, editors then decided to sign BEN on full-time.

"Finally a comic strip for and about guys my age -- my wife and I can really identify with the characters."

DANIEL SHELTON SPEAKS AT ROTARY CLUBS

Daniel Shelton, the creator of BEN, was invited by different Rotary Clubs this past fall to give short lectures on the ins and outs of writing and drawing a daily comic strip.

Daniel shared anecdotes with his audience and brought original artwork as well as some accompanying sketches showing the various stages of his creative process. Original sketches were then auctioned off at club events.
