| I am a new subscriber
to grandparents.com. Actually I am new to this computer age
period, it is so much to learn, but it is such a joy and blessing.
I thank you for the time and committment you place into putting
out this comic strip; it never fails to bring a smile to my
face. I pray that more and more will be blessed by this helpful
effort. Thank you again and be blessed. |

| I've been GREATLY
enjoying your recent series about Ben and Olive fighting over
control of the thermostat, as it reminds me both of my wife
and me and my mom and dad. I didn't think to cut it out of the
paper, and hoped to download them to mail them to my mom (she
doesn't get a weekday paper). However, I couldn't find them
on your web-site. Are they not posted yet? Please let me know
where I can find them. Thanks a lot. BTW - Ben has quickly become
one of my "top" comics. It's all way too familiar! |
|
| Just
a simple short but sweet note to tell you how much I enjoy your
comic strips here in Richmond Va. over the internet. I wish
that our local newspaper carried them a well. I have spoken
to them about it but I am just one small voice. I will keep
trying!! We have a Senior Section in the Newspaper (a separate
section devoted to news about seniors usually three or four
sheets in length) and I think your Ben ComIc Strip would fit
in just perfect. Thanks for the smiles it brings!! |
|
| The iGrandparents.com
newsletter offered your strip to me and I couldn't be happier
I looked at it. It's delightful and very true to life. Our newspaper
doesn't carry it, so it's nice having it here to start my day
off with a smile. If I could publish my own paper with comics,
this one and "For Better or For Worse' would be the first (and
perhaps ONLY) ones. They offer nice, clean, nonviolent, charming,
lovable, true to life subjects. Very welcome in this world of
ours. Thank you for sharing your work. |
|
| My
husband and I have just recently retired a (last February) and
we LOVE your column. It seems that you have been following us
around, because everything we do, think, or care about, you
write a column about. We even have two grandchildren (ages 2
and 4) and loved it when you became grandparents for the second
time in the strip - Thank you, thank you, thank you....Keep
up the good work. |
|
| I absolutely love
this comic! It is wonderful! Our local and very small paper
does not have any comics at all, but if it did I sure would
want BEN to be the one they would run.I e-mailed Edmonton's
two papers in hopes of getting them to run BEN . Good luck and
congratulations on this very funny ,human comic strip! |

Just
wanted to say how much we enjoy your comic strip. My wife and
I just had our second child, a boy, on October 2nd and our first
is also a 3 year old boy. It was fun reading your comic strip
and seeing the similarities. My wife was pregnant pretty much
the same time your cartoon character was and gave birth very
close to the time that your cartoon character did. Oddly enough
I work with computers, working as a Sysadmin doing networking
and working on large UNIX servers (and I always have a Notebook
close at hand). We were just ejoying your comic from the December
30th edition of the Vancouver Sun, it was the one that spoke
about creating a "extra special, extra memorable" New Years
Eve moment. Having two kids of our own, we could certainly relate.
Thanks for the wonderful comic strips, they have helped us to
laugh at ourselves. We look forward to reading many more.

Dear Mr. Shelton
(Daniel!), Just a quick email note to tell you how much we at
the College of Saint Benilde enjoy your strip. The Philippine
Daily Inquirer is doing us quite a favor by carrying your wonderfully
funny bits of work. Keep it up!
Sincerely, James |

| My
husband and I have very much enjoyed your comic strip over the
last several months- we learned we were expecting our baby at
the same time as the strip characters- went through many of
the same experiences- the morning sickness, etc. We would both
go straight to the comics to see what was happening with the
Ben family- fun to see things move along with us! Thanks! P.S.
we had a boy also, good and healthy, now 6 weeks old. |

Dear Mr. Shelton
I was recently introduced to your comic strip by a very dear
friend. "So I see Harold (my husband) is in the funnies!"
she chortled over the phone. I asked in semi-bewilderment, "Funnies?"
"You know, comic strips" Next, I was expecting a quip
like, "Yaah, Homer Simpson (or even Charly Brown) is sporting
a mustache!" Though I was sure the punch line would be
all the more belittling. Mary (as most of my friends) never
quite understood my infatuation with (much) older, balder men,
Harold being a 54 to my 28. I was pleasantly surprised two weeks
later to receive clippings of "Ben" through the mail.
Even Harold has to grin at seeing himself portrayed as the retired,
grandfatherly type...
I have since become an avid follower of "Ben" and
greatly look forward to letters from my Canadian friend. I especially
enjoyed the Miss Frumpley affair, but I believe Ben bears immense
sex appeal for the opposite end of the spectrum also! Recently
I and Harold vacationed at a nudist colony (it would be entertaining
to see how Ben would handle such a scenario - Nudge-Nudge Wink-Wink
). Iíve attached one of his less steamy pics to show you the
similarity. As a note of further interest Harold's new pet name
is BEN.

Hello
Daniel Shelton (does he actually read these?)
The day Patty decided to write her letter to the editor was
the same day my letter about public breastfeeding appeared in
my local paper. I just wanted to say thank you for the support
on this issue. It means a lot to me and the women in my breastfeeding
circle. Since my letter appeared, a columnist compared public
breastfeeding to public urination and defecation - which is
so stupid it's hard to know what, if any response could be mustered.
I was wondering if the strips are on line anywhere. I've been
cutting them out, but I've missed a few. And while I'm writing
this, I must tell you that we love the way you draw. Especially
the way the lines change thickness, and the hair and the hands.
Thanks!
Julie |

Hey Mr. Shelton!
I just wanted to let you know that I am following with great
interest the breastfeeding thread of your cartoon - I'm a vocal
breastfeeding advocate, and it's really nice to see a positive
message about breastfeeding in public in a comic strip, as opposed
to the usual piles of baby bottles that appear in most cartoons!
I think we're still in the middle of this particular thread,
but I'm really hoping that you plan to end it on the same positive
note, making it clear that it's OK for nursing mothers to feed
their babies anytime, anywhere! This is SO important, and I'm
glad you are drawing attention to it - please don't compromise!
Let the mother keep on nursing, no pumps, no nursing in bathrooms...
you're a parent, so you know how it goes! Thanks also for "Ben"
in general - I enjoy reading it every day in the Victoria Times
Colonist. My daughter is just about 3 years old, and my parents
live with us, so I can really identify with the subjects that
come up in the comic strip.
All the best, Sonia |

Hi.
Just wanted to thank you on the the breast feeding comics. It's
strange how so many things are "accepted" now, and we are forced
to "tolerate" so many bizzare things, yet something as natural
as feeding a baby is treated with controversy. Thanks again.

Since I arrived
in Canada last August, I am really enjoyed reading BEN (sometimes
the only reason to get out of my bed). I think it is one of
the best comics I have ever read. I am only 24 (so not the age
of Ben and Olivia), but I love it! Now that I found out about
your homepage, I can return to Germany without the concern that
I will never see Ben again :-) One thing I would like to know:
is there already a book? Where can I get it?
Yours, Annika |

Mr.
Shelton, First of all we are sure that you receive hundreds
of e-mails from fans, well here is another 2 fans to add to
your list. We really enjoy reading your comic strip everyday.
We look forward to reading it, cause it puts a smile on our
faces everyday. We were both wondering if you plan on having
published the complete collection of your strip in the future
or is it already in the works? And if so please let us know,
we would probably be one of the first ones in line to purchase
it.
Keep up the good work, sincerely Debbie and Harold |

Hi - my husband
and I (age 55) really love your comic strip -- we always think
you must be following us around and getting your ideas from
our conversations and situations! It is relly uncanny. We especially
liked the trip in the motor home because that was one of our
retirement options and every strip was something we had discussed.
Keep up the good work.

Just
a short note to say how much my wife and I enjoy the comic strip
"BEN". You touch on the issues of maturing people
with humour and affection - without the cruelty of some other
strips attempting to do the same. I hope the strip continues
for many, many years.
Yours sincerely, Fr. Michael |

| Hello! Ny name
is Asia and I'm 12 years old. I don't get any newspapers with
BEN in it, but my Grama does, so I've been following your whole
story. I just wanted to tell you that I think BEN is funny and
I like the drawings. My favourite character is Olivia. Don't
ask me why, I just like her...anyway that's about all I've got
to say! Bye! |

| Hello
Daniel... I read your comic strip every day in the Calgary Herald.
I love how you've portrayed this couple and made them so real!
I feel like I know them and it gives me a good idea of what
I have to look forward to...may years from now I hope. :-) I
am a 36 year old mom of two teenagers...17 and 15 1/2. There's
a lot of real life in your comic...things I've seen in my own
life and things I imagine happening. I don't have family of
my own, but if I did, I'd want my folks to be like Olivia and
Ben. Keep up the good work and know that you have an avid fan
in Calgary! |
|
I have been a
great fan of Ben; guess what I got my wife hooked on him too.
WE read the Halifax Daily News and the wife says "tis you
tis you" (NEWFIE) anyhow the fridge has Ben strips stuck
on it now...any chance Ben is allowed his hand in the kitchen?
I'm not even allowed to go near the bread machine!!! Keep up
the good work, see you in the morning Ben.

Congratulations,
it's refreshing to see that Canadian artists are making it
big time on the newspaper scene. Between you and Lynn Johnston
the Americans will stop thinking of us as a bunch of snowbound
hicks. After all we also have a sense of humour. You hit the
mark with your character development. My father sees your
work as life in progress and I see it as life to come. My
kids don't see anything , but then again they're teenagers.
Keep up the good work - and I'll keep reading...

Being newly retired
with a new RV enjoyed the summertime strip on Ben and Olivia's
vacation motor home rental trip this past summer. As an early
Baby Boomer Ben is ahead of his time. Look forward to catching
up with Ben and Olivia each morning. We are delighted to see
Ben is exploring (and enjoying) the computer age. We will be
keeping an eye on his website as well as following life in the
strip.
Thank you, Marion and Glen |

Just wanted to
say how much I enjoy Ben...it's one of the few comics that tries
to look at real life without pushing a modern, almost political
"agenda", yet is still funny. Keep up the good work.

It's 6 pm and
I should have dinner ready BUT I found your website and just
had to send you a message. Ben is now my favorite cartoon. I
leave it to the end - read it last, just like a meal is enjoyed
with desert. Being the grandparents of a two year old grandson
and retired we relate very well. The computer series was especially
good - the favourite being when Ben was using the CD compartment
as a coffee mug holder. Ben has replaced "For Better or
Worse" in my heart.
Faithfully yours, a Montreal subscriber, Cathern |
