Well, the switch that was supposed to be seamless was in fact, not. Even as of this writing, I am not sure when my ISP will come through for me.
The problem started Monday when a reader noticed broken image links on the rest of the site. I realized (looking at the URL) that although the homepage was fine, the rest of the site was still using the test site URL. That’s why there were broken image links.
I e-mailed my ISP to let them know but the next day I saw the change they did was even worse! BOTH the test site and the live site were back to the old format, which I can’t access since I don’t have my desktop with me. The whole point of the switch to a WordPress site was so I could update it from anywhere as long as I had access to a computer.
To further complicate things, I am halfway around the world on a different time zone, 12 hours difference. 9 am here is 9 pm EST in North America. So any communication has a 12 hour wait for a result. Also, I have been at a beach resort with just my brother’s iPhone which is a real pain to e-mail from. Now I am at my sister’s, using her laptop, and have been exchanging frustrating e-mails with my ISP who doesn’t seem to understand my needs.
And now it’s the weekend! Probably no movement till Monday. All I can say is I am sorry for the inconvenience and don’t give up on me yet!
In the meantime I will continue to blog about my trip here, not knowing when it will be visible to the public.
I’m here in Manila and it is HOT. I’m sitting here surrounded by fans but the sweat is still pooling on my upper lip. I’ve drunk 4 glasses of water in the last couple of hours but I am still thirsty. They warned me it was hot but it doesn’t seem to be something you can prepare for!
On the plane I spoke with a few Canadians from Halifax who were coming to stay for 3 weeks. They were very excited and when I warned them it was supposed to be really hot they said they LOVE the heat. I could only think, “Halifax? They won’t last 24 hours before they’ll be wanting to stay anywhere air-conditioned!”
Mia, my four-year-old daughter, was absolutely brilliant during the whole trip. She took everything in stride, from the long waits in the airport to the turbulence on the flight, not complaining but smiling throughout it all. I on the other hand was constantly motion sick and in fact as of this typing am starting to feel a bit woozy again staring at the computer screen so I will be taking a nap real soon. Good night!
After many hours of learning how to use Comicpress in between my own manga work, I’ve finally got the new site up and running.
The look is pretty much the same as it was before. The biggest changes are that now readers can post comments on both “BEN” as well as my blog, and that the comic for the day will now automatically upload at midnight and be available to all you early birds who no longer have to wait till 9 am (and at times, even later than that!).
There are tags and categories plus extensive archives that go back to October 2009. Later on I will add more functions such as e-mail to a friend, and a store where you can buy prints and original artwork of “BEN”.
One thing I wasn’t able to do is the French mirror site. I am going to the Philippines for 2 weeks so that will have to wait. I might have more time to blog from there though, so watch this page!
And please keep those comments coming. We love to hear from you!
